Rohde & Schwarz has announced a new walk-through security scanner aimed at venues handling high volumes of visitors, as the company prepares to exhibit at Security Expo in Essen from September 22 to 25, 2026.
The company said the QPS Walk500 is a more compact version of its QPS Walk2000 walk-through scanner, positioned for use at large events where screening needs to identify weapons, explosives and other prohibited items without creating bottlenecks.
Rohde & Schwarz said the QPS Walk500 is designed to allow people to pass through without stopping and without removing coats or other outerwear. The company stated the system can screen up to 750 people per hour.
According to Rohde & Schwarz, the scanner combines millimeterwave technology with AI-based algorithms to detect a range of materials including metals, plastics, liquids, granules, organic materials and ceramics, and to identify objects that may not be detected by conventional metal detectors.
The company said its automatic threat detection highlights the location of suspicious objects on a neutral avatar to support follow-up inspections, and that an optional “hand-masking” feature is intended to allow people to hold common items such as phones, wallets and keys without disrupting the scan.
Alongside the new walk-through scanner, Rohde & Schwarz said it will also showcase its QPS201 static security scanner at the expo. The company also said it will promote ARDRONIS, described as a drone defence system intended to detect, locate and counter RF-based drone threats, as part of its broader focus on security technologies for critical infrastructure.
Rohde & Schwarz said its security scanners are designed for use in applications with controlled access processes and high security requirements, including aviation, border controls, data centres, correctional facilities, loss prevention, nuclear facilities and events.
