Rigaku Corporation has launched the CT Lab HR160, a high-resolution X-ray computed tomography (CT) system aimed at analysis and inspection of batteries, semiconductor devices, electronic components and advanced materials.
The company said the system was developed in collaboration with Sweden-based X-ray source maker Excillum AB, and combines Rigaku’s CT imaging technology with Excillum’s NanoTube N3 X-ray source.
According to Rigaku, the CT Lab HR160 operates at up to 160 kV and can achieve 250 nm spatial resolution, targeting non-destructive 3D imaging of internal structures and defects that may be difficult to observe using conventional laboratory CT systems.
Rigaku said the system uses a cone-beam geometry designed to let users adjust field of view and resolution without changing the X-ray source or detector. The company positioned the platform for applications including solid-state batteries, semiconductor devices, multilayer ceramic capacitors and power electronics, where internal inspection is used in research and development, quality evaluation and failure analysis.
Rigaku said increasing miniaturisation and complexity of electronic components and advanced materials is driving demand for tools that can identify finer internal features in a laboratory environment.

By providing high-resolution CT capabilities in a laboratory environment, we aim to support faster decision-making across research, development, quality evaluation, and failure analysis,” said Kiyoshi Ogata, General Manager of the Product Division, Rigaku.
