O.W.L. upgrades GroundAware GA1360LH short-range 360-degree 2D radar system

Observation Without Limits (O.W.L.) has announced an upgraded version of its GroundAware GA1360LH 2D 360-degree digital multi-beamforming radar system, aimed at automated detection and tracking of perimeter intrusions around critical infrastructure sites.

The U.S.-based radar manufacturer said the GA1360LH is now available and includes target classification intended to distinguish among humans, animals, and ground and water vehicles. O.W.L. said the system supports alarming on selected targets of concern within and around critical sites.

“Our original GA1360 radar was designed to function as the wide-area perimeter intrusion detection sensor that helped meet NERC CIP-014 requirements for transmission substations,” said Adam Robinett, O.W.L. CEO. “The GA1360 quickly became our workhorse ground surveillance radar that serves as the foundation for event-based layered security at all kinds of critical infrastructure sites. Now, our GA1360LH provides longer detection ranges and improved target tracking for automated detection, tracking, deterrence, and response to intrusions within a 1 km radius of critical sites.”

Robinett said the upgraded model provides coverage for “up to 750 acres or 300 hectares by a single radar,” arguing this can reduce the number of sensors and supporting infrastructure required for perimeter monitoring.

O.W.L. positioned the GA1360LH for ground and water surface surveillance across a range of environments including electrical transmission substations, power plants, natural gas compression stations, dams, water reservoirs, water treatment facilities, midstream oil and gas sites, airports, seaports, rail facilities, mines, manufacturing plants, data centers, storage facilities and campus-style critical sites with open perimeters.

According to O.W.L., key features include digital beamforming for all-weather detection and tracking; detection ranges of 1 km+ for ground and water vehicles and 600 metres for humans; and integration with ONVIF cameras, video management systems including Genetec, Milestone and Avigilon, plus access control systems, physical security information management systems, alarms, lights and drones.

The company also listed specifications including pulsed Doppler processing; S-band operation (3.0–3.3 GHz); 360-degree azimuth field of view; 40-degree elevation field of view; and operating temperatures from –20°C to +60°C.
