Detection Technology has announced the launch of the X-Panel 4386a FPI, adding a high-speed model to its X-Panel XL series of large-area thin-film transistor (TFT) flat panel X-ray detectors aimed at industrial computed tomography (CT) imaging and other high-throughput inspection uses.
The company said the new detector is based on its single-glass X-Panel XL platform and provides a 430 x 860 mm active area for dynamic imaging applications. It follows the earlier X-Panel 43108 variants, which the company said were designed to address demand for inspection of large objects.
“The launch of the X-Panel 4386 as a successor to the X-Panel 43108 demonstrates our commitment to continuously expanding the capabilities of the X-Panel XL series,” said Tuomas Holma, Product Director at Detection Technology. “Customers have shown tremendous interest in large-area dynamic detectors that improve throughput and imaging quality while enabling entirely new system concepts. The X-Panel 4386 enables faster and more flexible industrial imaging system designs.”
According to Detection Technology, the X-Panel 4386a FPI uses a dual-side readout architecture, enabling frame rates of up to 15 frames per second (fps) in full-resolution mode, 45 fps in 3×3 binning mode, and 90 fps in 6×6 binning mode. The company said this is more than five times faster than many competing large-area detector solutions.
The detector uses a-Si TFT technology with a 140 µm pixel size and a 3072 x 6144 pixel matrix. The company said it supports 10G BASE-T connectivity for high-speed data transfer and is optimised for high-energy X-ray tube imaging, with scintillator options including DRZ-Plus and Cesium Iodide (CsI).
Detection Technology said intended applications include industrial CT and digital radiography systems; automotive inspection of large assemblies and battery systems; aerospace inspection of composite structures; inspection of heavy castings and large industrial components; defence and ammunition inspection; and conveyor-based manufacturing inspection systems.
The company said the X-Panel XL series is designed for industrial environments and is compliant with applicable international EMC, safety, environmental, and industry standards, with the aim of supporting integration and certification for OEM customers.
Detection Technology said the series is available with EU-origin and China-origin manufacturing options. It said deliveries for the X-Panel 43108 have started and deliveries for the X-Panel 4386 are planned to begin at the end of 2026.
The company said it will showcase the X-Panel XL series at ECNDT 2026 in Verona, Italy, on 15–19 June 2026.
