Geotab says its GO9B telematics device has received type-approval from Transport Certification Australia (TCA) as a Level 2 assurance device under the National Telematics Framework (NTF), expanding the hardware options available to eligible heavy vehicle operators seeking to meet telematics compliance requirements.
The company said eligible transport operators can now use either the GO9B (Model: GDSAA1, SKUs: GO9-LTEB1TLS and GO9-LTEB2TEN) or the GO9-LTM (SKUs: GO9-LTMTLS and GO9-LTMTENO) to enrol in Telematics Monitoring Application (TMA) and Road Infrastructure Management (RIM) schemes through Geotab’s certified Application Service Provider (ASP) platform.
Geotab linked the announcement to Heavy Vehicle National Law reforms that it said introduce new accreditation requirements, positioning the additional device approval as a way for fleets to choose between approved hardware while using a single platform.
The approval follows Geotab’s certification as a TCA Application Service Provider in 2025 and the earlier type-approval of its GO9-LTM device. Geotab said existing GO9-LTM customers can continue using their current hardware, while fleets deploying GO9B have an additional TCA-approved option for accessing NTF schemes.
Under the NTF, Geotab said eligible operators can enrol in TMA, which it described as supporting heavy vehicle access management by monitoring vehicle location, time and identity for approved government schemes, and in RIM, which it said enables the collection of trusted road use data to help road managers understand infrastructure utilisation and inform road network planning.
TCA is a subsidiary of Austroads and assesses and certifies telematics and vehicle-based technologies for Australian and New Zealand transport agencies, according to the release. TCA also administers the National Telematics Framework, which it said is designed to standardise interactions between government agencies, transport operators and technology providers.
