Brisbane beat cops get real-time access to scores of CCTVs

Big Brother is watching over Brisbane, and he’s now using iPhones and iPads to keep an eye on the River City.

Police officers across Brisbane will be able to access 73 security cameras around the Brisbane CBD and Fortitude Valley on their mobile devices, by the time the G20 Summit is staged in November.

For now, about 20 of the camera-connected devices are in use, but they will be eventually rolled out across the state, police said.

Police Minister Jack Dempsey said the streaming technology was an Australian-first, and would help officers quickly identify offenders.

“In the past they may have actually walked past that offender or not had a full description. This way they’re actually getting a photo,” he said. READ MORE
