The South-East Hesse Police Headquarters – which is one of Germany’s most modern police facilities, located on a site of almost 37,000 m² – uses Circlelock Solo high security portals to prevent unauthorised access to the facility that is home to more than 800 police officers.
The six Circlelock Solo portals installed in this high profile facility are now being sold in Australia with the same security features guaranteed to ensure that only one authorised person at a time can enter sensitive public and private infrastructures, such as data centres, financial and telecommunication hubs, energy production facilities, as well as our own police centres.
In addition to protecting people as its first priority, the police headquarters security entrances also enhance control of access to a building containing a sophisticated command and control centre where operators monitor, analyse, and manage critical systems and operations in real time.
Boon Edam Australia Managing Director Michael Fisher says the application of Boon Edam security portals at the police headquarters follows the use of Boon Edam Tourlock 180 security revolving doors with bullet-resistant glass in the two-story lobby of the Dallas, Texas, Police HQ, home to more than 3,000 officers.
The high-security Circlelock Solo portals installed at the SE Hesse Police headquarters ensure authorised persons can enter only one at a time, using integrated security features that reduce the need for manned security points that could otherwise increase costs and manpower required by building owners, managers, and occupants.
The round, cylindrical compartment of the Circlelocks feature two interlocking, automatic sliding doors. After authorisation via card reader, the first door opens, enabling the user to enter the portal. Integrated sensors confirm that the person is alone, providing protection against tailgating by intruders trying to follow authorised people into facilities. The second sliding door then opens and the secure area can be passed through.
A voice module informs users when two people enter at the same time. Tailgating attempts are thus reliably detected and prevented. Circlelocks can govern both entry and exit, it is possible to go in and out in both directions. Additional biometric systems for unique identification of users can be seamlessly integrated.
Boon Edam developed a custom-made door with a diameter of 1200 mm for the police headquarters in SE Hesse. Standard Circlelock Solos are 1000-1500 mm in diameter according to architectural, access and security needs.
“Although the 1200 mm doors are space-saving, they still provide enough room for police officers in full gear. The doors are equipped with high-quality safety glass. No security personnel are required to operate the automatic doors,” which means that police and other security staff can be deployed elsewhere to jobs making best use of their time,” says Fisher.
Circlelock security doors can be controlled via two operating units. Powerful batteries ensure an uninterruptable power supply (UPS), even in the event of a power failure. Additional security is provided by an interface to building automation, which allows the system to be monitored from anywhere in the building.
