Motorola Solutions-owned Silvus Technologies has launched its smallest fully featured mobile ad hoc network (MANET) radio to date, delivering next-generation mesh networking in a compact, rugged form factor designed for demanding operational environments.
The new StreamCaster MINI 5200 (SM5200) is designed to enable secure sharing of voice, video and data without relying on fixed infrastructure, making it well suited to defence, public safety and security operations where reliable communications are critical. Despite its ultra-compact size, the SM5200 delivers up to two watts of output power and data throughput of up to 100 Mbps, supporting real-time connectivity across distributed teams.
Weighing just 182 grams, the SM5200 incorporates a two-by-two MIMO radio powered by Silvus’ MN-MIMO waveform, creating a self-forming, adaptive mesh network capable of carrying high-quality video and data across hundreds of nodes, even in contested or disrupted environments.
Silvus vice president of product Neema Daneshvar said the SM5200 represents a major step forward in tactical communications, offering full-size StreamCaster performance in the smallest radio the company has built to date, without compromising range or throughput.
Designed for mobility and flexibility, the SM5200 eliminates bulky cabling and can be deployed as a standalone device or integrated into broader tactical networking systems such as StreamCaster NEXUS. It features advanced audio circuitry and push-to-talk functionality, allowing users to monitor two talk groups simultaneously. A dedicated radio-over-IP interface also enables seamless integration with land mobile radio systems.
The radio supports a wide range of plug-and-play power options, from vehicle supplies to wearable batteries, ensuring consistent uptime in the field. Connectivity options include Ethernet, USB and RS-232 ports, allowing rapid integration with cameras, sensors and other edge devices.
Built for harsh operating conditions, the SM5200 is housed in a ruggedised, IP68-rated waterproof enclosure. Security is provided through AES-256 and FIPS 140-3 compliant encryption, protecting sensitive data in transit. The radio also supports Silvus’ Spectrum Dominance 2.0 capabilities, offering low probability of intercept and detection, anti-jam resilience and advanced electronic warfare protection to maintain communications under attack.
Silvus said the SM5200 is designed to give operators greater mobility and situational awareness while maintaining secure, high-performance connectivity at the tactical edge.
